At home or in class.Make cube patterns together.

Start with a solved 3×3 and play with its colors. Use free 3D instructions and printable sheets with your family or group. No account needed.

What you need

  • One solved 3×3 cube per person or pair
  • A phone, tablet or computer for the 3D instructions
  • An optional printed sheet (one A4 page)

Get started in three steps

  1. 01

    Choose a pattern

Start with the six-move checkerboard. Compare the finished pictures and choose a pattern you like.

  2. 02

Print and hand out the sheet

All eight patterns fit on one A4 page. Choose Save as PDF in the print dialog to share a digital copy.

  3. 03

Scan and turn, one move at a time

Open the 3D instructions using the QR code. Pause playback or step through the moves at your own pace.

Three patterns to try first

Start each one with a solved cube. Select a picture to open its 3D instructions.

Using it with a class or group

Check the first move together before continuing. In pairs, take turns reading the instructions and turning the cube. If notation is unfamiliar, watch the 3D moves together.

Return to a solved cube

The repeat count is the total from solved back to solved. “2 repeats” means doing the same sequence once more after making the pattern. If you lose your place, enter the current colors in the solver.
